This Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services provides references to CMS rules and key announcements on this topic also present in detail the specific CMS quality standards for "Business Services" and for "Product-Specific Services" that must be met.

Description

In 2006 the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) established the set of quality standards such suppliers must meet as conditions of participation

Among various requirements the law stipulates that providers of DMEPOS (durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies -- such as wheelchairs and oxygen delivery systems, for example) must meet new quality standards in order to bill the Medicare Part B program.

Later that year, CMS announced the list of organizations that are now authorized to accredit such healthcare organizations as meeting the standards. One such organization is The Joint Commission (JCAHO).

Part 1 of this webinar provides references to CMS rules and key announcements on this topic. It also presents in detail the specific CMS quality standards for "Business Services" and for "Product-Specific Services" that must be met.

Part 2 of this webinar identifies the accreditation organizations designated by CMS, and specifically looks at The Joint Commission (JCAHO) and its Home Care Accreditation process in light of the new Medicare requirement.

Areas Covered in the seminar:

  • Overview of the MMA DMEPOS requirements and processes
  • Detailed walk-through of the quality Business Services standards such as Administration, HR, Consumer Services, and Information Management (HIPAA)
  • Detailed walk-through of the General Product-Specific Services standards
