All facilities manufacturing pharmaceuticals, biologics, medical devices, cosmetics, and personal care products are likely to have high purity water systems. In spite of this purity, microorganisms can flourish within these systems and lead to undesirable contamination of facility processes and their products. Of all the individuals at the facility, it is site’s microbiologists who should understand the microorganisms in water systems and how best to monitor and control them. Sadly, this is often not the case due to the lack of familiarity with biofilm and its impact on water system sampling, testing, sanitization, and routine maintenance. This lack of understanding of microbial control often leads to poor system designs, poor system sampling, poor system maintenance and poor sanitization practices, and as a result, ongoing microbial problems with the water.
This course is designed to provide a microbiology-focused education about all aspects of water systems and how biofilm manages to thrive there. Prior microbiological education or training, though a plus, is not a requirement, since this training is for everyone involved with water systems, from the lab to utility room operations. The instructor will provide the necessary background needed to understand this very important subject matter. This understanding is essential for the proper design, validation, operation, monitoring, and maintenance of a high purity water system. Without this understanding, water system control and monitoring consists of a set of rules that often don’t work or result in erroneous monitoring data and can cause everything from very costly and unnecessary system downtime to patient injury and product recalls.
At the completion of the course, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the role of system design, maintenance and sanitization in controlling microbial levels in pharmaceutical water systems.
- Successfully troubleshoot problems resulting from poor design/maintenance versus sampling or testing problems.
- Devise water system validation protocols that truly validate microbial control.

- Develop sound Alert and Action Levels and Water Specifications.
- Prepare for a successful water system inspection by FDA or other regulators.

Soli, Ph.D., is President of Soli Pharma Solutions, Inc, with training, auditing, and troubleshooting expertise covering water systems, sterilization, aseptic processing, contamination control, and microbiological laboratories. He has over 36 years of combined pharmaceutical experience as a consultant and with operating companies (DSM Pharmaceuticals, Glaxo Wellcome, Burroughs Wellcome, and Pfizer). Dr. Soli's career-long water system and manufacturing contamination troubleshooting expertise, coupled with water-related USP, ISPE, PhRMA, and PDA committee and guide creation involvements, afford him practical knowledge about process and contamination control and mitigation; cleaning, sterilization, process, and microbiological testing validation; and all aspects of high purity water systems.
Dr. Soli is in his fourth 5 year term on USP Expert Committees responsible for Pharmaceutical Water, previously served 5 years on the Advisory Panel to the USP Microbiology Subcommittee, and helped develop the Water Conductivity and TOC specifications used by USP and adopted world-wide. He has authored many articles and chapters in books and industry guides published by PDA and ISPE and is the author of USP’s Chapter <1231>.

Cancellations and substitutions:
Written cancellations through fax or email (from the person who has registered for this conference) received at least 10 calendar days prior to the start date of the event will receive a refund — less a $75 administration fee. Ahsan Manzil is one of the most significant architectural monuments of Bangladesh. It was the official residential palace and seat of the Dhaka Nawab family. This magnificent building is situated at Kumartoli along the banks of the Buriganga River in Dhaka. The construction of this palace was started in 1859 and was completed in 1872. It was constructed in the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. It has been designated as a national museum.
Bangladesh National Museum
The Bangladesh National Museum originally established on 20 March 1913, albeit under another name (the Dhaka Museum), and formally inaugurated on 7 August 1913, was accorded the status of the national museum of Bangladesh on 17 November 1983. It is located at Shahbag, Dhaka. The museum is well organized and displays have been housed chronologically in several departments like department of ethnography and decorative art, department of history and classical art, department of natural history, and department of contemporary and world civilization. The museum also has a rich conservation laboratory.
Dhakeshwari National Temple is a Hindu temple in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is state-owned, giving it the distinction of being Bangladesh's 'National Temple'. The name "Dhakeshwari" means "Goddess of Dhaka". Since the destruction of Ramna Kali Mandir in 1971 by the Pakistan Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War, the Dhakeshwari Temple has assumed status as the most important Hindu place of worship in Bangladesh. The Dhakeshwari temple was built in the 12th century by Ballal Sen, a king of the Sena dynasty, and many say the city was named after this temple.
Liberation War Museum
The Liberation War Museum is a museum in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh that commemorates the Bangladesh Liberation War, which led to the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan.
The museum opened on 22 March 1996, and has more than 9,000,000,000 artifacts and exhibits on display in the museum or stored in its archives. It is currently being rebuilt. The galleries on the ground floor begin with covering the early history of Bangladesh and the Indian independence movement against British Raj in Bengal. A major section records the events of the Language Movement for the recognition of the Bengali language in Pakistan, which is regarded as the beginning of the movement for Bangladesh's independence.
Star Mosque is located in Armanitola area, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The mosque has ornate designs and is decorated with motifs of blue stars. It was built in the first half of the 19th century by Mirza Golam Pir (Mirza Ahmed Jan). The mosque was first built by Mirza Ghulam Pir, as a three domed oblong edifice. But an over enthusiastic and zealous merchant named Ali Jan Bepari completely remodeled and reconstructed it with extremely delicate and richly colored tiles of variegated patterns.
Dhaka Zoo is a located in the Mirpur section of Dhaka. The zoo contains many native and non-native animals and wild life, and hosts about three million visitors each year. Established in 1974, the 186-acre (75 ha) Dhaka Zoo is the largest zoo in Bangladesh, and is operated by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. The zoo attracts around 10,000 visitors every day with the number increasing during the weekends and holidays. The yearly budget of Dhaka Zoo is Tk 37.5 million, out of which Tk 25 million is spent on feeding the animals.
Ramna Park is a large park and recreation area situated at the heart of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. This park is one of the most beautiful areas in Dhaka with lots of trees and a lake near its center. The history of Ramna starts about 1610 CE during Mughal rule, when the city of Dhaka was founded by Subehdar Islam Khan under Emperor Jahangir. At that time two beautiful residential areas were developed in the northern suburb of Dhaka city. New residential houses, gardens, mosques, tombs and temples were built in this area during that period. After the fall of the Mughal rule, Ramna gradually lost much of its glory. Ramna was then a barren area with bushes, abandoned or dilapidated buildings, tombs and old temples.
