This training program addresses the increase in OSHA penalties. The new penalties took effect August 2, 2016. Any citations issued by OSHA on or after this date will be subject to the new penalties if the related violations occurred after November 2, 2015.

Why Should You Attend:

On November 2, 2015, President Obama signed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 into law. Section 701 of the Budget Act, entitled “Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015,” gives OSHA the go ahead to increase penalty amounts to catch up with cost of living adjustments since the last time OSHA’s civil penalties increased in 1990.

This webinar will discuss how the budget deal affects every employer within OSHA’s jurisdiction and what you can do to minimize your exposure. OSHA penalties have not increased in 25 years. Maximum OSHA penalties may jump as much as about 78 percent next year. For a provision quietly tucked away in budget legislation and not given so much media attention, this deal has the potential of severely hurting businesses both large and small.

Learning Objectives:

  • Know the increase amount for each OSHA violation category.
  • Identify why the increase in penalties.
  • Define how the increase in penalties came about.
  • Describe each type of OSHA violation.
  • How the increased penalties impact the employer besides the cost.
