This Training provides information on lightning statistics, how to develop and implement a surge protection strategy, and how to measure the effectiveness of the program through testing.

Ensuring compliance to the surge immunity requirements of the EMC Directive has been a straight-forward exercise for many years. However, recent studies and application problems associated with deploying surge components in end-use equipment are now questioning the standard assumptions. This seminar provides information on lightning statistics, how to develop and implement a surge protection strategy, and how to measure the effectiveness of the program through testing. The test program will examine items associated with ensuring that the end-use equipment has a specific level of immunity to lightning transients, and those items that will ensure that the safety of the product will not be compromised because of the added lightning protection circuitry.

Certificates of completion will be awarded to all participants. Also, special provisions have been made for those learners who want to earn 0.1 continuing education units (CEUs) or 1.0 professional development hours (PDHs).

Instructor Profile
Bryan Cole, NCE is the President/Owner of Technology Research Council and an Adjunct Professor at Lackawanna College. Bryan has 20 years experience in the design, development and application of power quality equipment, aviation instrumentation, and various low-voltage distribution equipment. He is a member of a number of IEEE societies and working groups, a member of UL Standard Technical Panels 67, 497, 1363, and 1449, a member of the US National Committee to the IEC, and has assisted in the development of more than 30 standards related to Electrical Power Systems and Power Systems Equipment. Bryan is a NARTE Certified Engineer in product safety, has a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Binghamton University, a MBA from the University of Phoenix, and is a PhD student at Northcentral University.

Bryan brings together corporate and product management experience with the details of ensuring that a product meets the product safety goals of the organization. He has an in-depth knowledge of managing new product development programs for use in industrial, commercial, and telecommunication applications.
