DYNAMIC MEASUREMENT OF WATER VAPOR TRANSFER THROUGH SHEET MATERIALS

• This method describes a procedure using a closed cell to evaluate rapidly, at any normal or elevated temperature, the water vapor transfer rate (WVTR) of packaging materials in sheet form, especially barrier films of coated paper.
• This method is not intended for any environmental, FDA , or other regulatory application. Please refer to the specific regulatory section for any such application.
• When the specimen has only one hydrophobic surface , dynamic test equipment gives accurate conversions to the standard gravimetric test values only if this surface is placed in the dry side of the test cell.
• The rate of transmission of water vapor through the barrier material during the transient period can be used to evaluate the barrier quality of the material.
