Fifteen percent or more of mothers who will be breastfeeding are often using recreational drugs of abuse and most do take non-abuse recreational drugs (e.g., caffeine, alcohol). Marijuana use is exploding among the general population and among breastfeeding mothers. In this webinar Potential adverse effects in children of mothers who are breastfeeding and using recreational drugs will be reviewed and discussed. Non-abuse recreational drug use guidelines while breastfeeding will be identified. Ethical dilemmas will be presented. Using the material presented, healthcare professionals will be able to counsel mothers who are breastfeeding and desire to use or take recreational drugs.

He retired after 43 years of government service, including 30 years of distinguished service with the US Public Health Service, 29 years at the National Institutes of Health, and five years at the Food and Drug Administration. He currently is self-employed as a consultant and President, Nice Breastfeeding LLC and President, Pacific United LLC.
Dr. Nice has published Nonprescription Drugs for the Breastfeeding Mother, The Galactagogue Recipe Book, Recreational Drugs and Drugs Used To Treat Addicted Mothers: Impact on Pregnancy and Breastfeeding, and Haiti Beyond Belief. He has organized and participated in over 50 medical missions to the country of Haiti.
