3-hr Virtual Seminar - OSHA Subpart Z (or IH) Regulations: Everything you Always Wanted to Know About It

Why Should You Attend:

Ever wonder what all of those long industrial hygiene (or IH) regulations are about in OSHA’s Subpart Z (in either 1910 – General Industry or 1926 – Construction)? You are not alone! Many OHS professionals have questions about these “Expanded Health” standards! These IH standards can be quite involved and, at times, confusing. This can obviously lead to non-compliance and then on to – hazards, exposures, illness, citations, and fines – and no one wants that!

In this workshop we will look at and discuss many of the individual standards as well as the general model and approach that OSHA takes with their IH regulations – there is a “template” of sorts that OSHA tends to follow. A fundamental working knowledge and expertise of this template and approach can help even the non-IH be better able to manage these IH regulations.

Participants will learn both this general and applicable approach and structure common to most of these IH regulations as well as the specific requirements of many of the individual standards. Participants will have the opportunity to “vote” or indicate which of the different regulations they prefer to see discussed and which they are less interested in. You will also have enough time and opportunity to get your questions answered by the presenter.

• Describe the most important aspect of an IH regulation (for OSHA and an employer;

Topic Background:

OSHA's regulations are divided up as follows:

• First they are divided up by “industry” (i.e., Agriculture, Construction, Maritime, and General Industry (all others that aren't in the first three).
• Then each “Part” is further divided into “Subparts” of similar hazard types.
• Lastly, each “Subpart” is comprised of individual standards or regulations.

Subpart Z, in both 1910 – General Industry and 1926 – Construction, is the longest Subpart. In both parts it is titled “Toxic and Hazardous Substances” and is comprised of all industrial hygiene (IH) or “Expanded Health” standards. Each regulation is quite long and involved with many varied requirements. The structure of many of these regulations follow somewhat of a standard “template” of sections. Having a working understanding of this can be extremely helpful to anyone needing to work with it.
