In many instances, it is inconvenient to install a weir or other flow measuring devices to determine the mass flow rate of white water, thin stock, or various process waters. In such a case, a known salt solution, such as sodium thiosulfate, is introduced at a certain mass flow rate into an unknown flow. By determining the dilution of the salt in the unknown stream, the mass flow rate can be determined.
