Food Labeling Guide
Under the FDA's jurisdiction, the FD&C Act (Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act) and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act govern regulations for food products. To ensure that the food sold in the US is wholesome, safe and adequately labelled with nutritional information, the FDA seeks to offer insight to industry participants through this guidance.
While the guidance does not cover the entire gamut of questions that may arise with relation to food labelling, it does address the key issues and questions that constantly surface in the industry.
Required Statements in Food Labels
The FDA frequently receives a flurry of questions from food importers, manufacturers, and distributors about labeling queries for their food products. This food labelling guide offers a summary of the required statements that must be available on food labels as per the relevant laws and regulations.
To ensure compliance and to minimize legal action, the FDA recommends that food importers and manufacturers stay updated with the pertinent laws and regulations for distributing food in the United States.
